There seems to be a theme going on with Korean dramas right now. It’s the season for supernatural dramas, specifically those featuring powers where at least one of the main leads can see ghosts / spirits. This is just my opinion though since there are currently two dramas I am enjoying on Viki called Who Are You and Master’s Sun that fall under this category. But, this recommendation is for Master’s Sun.

I decided to do these recommendations because there may be new drama fans out there who aren’t necessarily in the loop on what’s hot and what’s not or maybe they aren’t sure where to begin in watching their first few dramas. The biggest turn off is attempting to try out something new and having a bad first impression. This rings true to anything really…including *Kdrama Land* (short for Korean Drama Land). Some are great while some are not. Then again, it also relates to someone’s taste. Still, the ‘hot’ dramas always gain more traffic and interactions because they are usually more interesting. As a result, I figured hearing from someone who’s been into this entertainment hobby longer would probably be a good guide and help steer the newbies down a fun and thrilling journey.  Also, the loyal followers (community members) of these drama shows make the experience of these shows that much more entertaining and enjoyable.

Right, so if you’re a newbie to Kdramas or any other Asian drama and you’re not sure where to begin, look out for my recommendations.

Now, to delve into why I think Master’s Sun is such a good drama this season.

It has a little bit of everything: drama, romance, comedy, suspense, horror/supernatural and action. The storyline is well crafted to keep you wanting to know more and wondering what happens next. There’s even that element of surprise. The characters are so well developed, you can’t help but like and relate to them. Tae Gong Sil, the main female lead, is lovable, quirky, weird, but so fun. And Joo Joong Won, the main male lead, is confident to the point of being a bit cocky sometimes, but a sweetheart. They compliment each other well and really feed off of each other in the drama.

The OST (music soundtrack) meshes well with the various scenes and the drama has moments of evoking “laugh out loud” responses from its viewers.

In a nutshell, if you love supernatural shows with a romantic comedy line, Master’s Sun is for you. But, it’s not only fun and games. There is a very serious undertone to the entire drama that ties everything together nicely. I’m sure you’ll like it if you give it a try, but don’t take my word for it.

To get you started, here’s the summary and first episode from Viki. The drama can also be found on DramaFever as well.

What can a woman do when she develops a scary ability? In this part horror, part romantic comedy, Tae Gong Sil (Gong Hyo Jin) is a sweet woman who develops the ability to see ghosts after getting into a bad accident and coming out of a three-year coma. Her boss is the ambitious and cool CEO, Joo Joong Won (So Ji Sub), who loves money more than anything else in the world. But as the haughty executive learns to trust his quirky employee and falls in love with her, can he help save her from her scary world of ghosts? “Master’s Sun” is a 2013 South Korean drama series written by Hong Mi Ran and Hong Jung Eun and directed by Jin Hyuk. The Hong sisters also wrote the recent successful dramas “Big” (2012) “My Girlfriend Is a Nine-Tailed Fox,” (2010), and “The Greatest Love” (2011), which garnered them the Writer of the Year Award at the 2011 MBC Drama Awards.
