Yuri!!! on Ice
I will start by saying this anime is not for everyone. For starters, it is a sports anime strictly centered around competitive figure skating. It also has some BL “Boys Love” undertones to it since all the main characters are male. However, if those two things are not deal breakers for you, then you will enjoy this anime.
The creators have managed to capture the essence and beauty of figure skating. They have also accurately depicted the vigorous training and repetition that goes into perfecting a set. The moves done in figure skating are not easy and take a lot out of the athlete. It is a very intense and emotional sport, like most are, because athletes put their heart and soul into these competitions.
Yuri!!! on Ice has captured these moments in figure skating that take your breath away. The depth to the anime is amazing. The main character Yuri is very relatable, from struggling with weight issues to finding himself and growing in confidence as time progresses and he faces new challenges. The supporting characters are also likeable and the visuals are beautiful. There are a lot of light, funny moments and while the show ends on season one with a premise for a second season, it is worth watching. I’m sure you will enjoy this one.
